Dixie Walker

Educational Tutor

Hi! I’m Dixie Walker. I have a passion for helping children and young adults grow in both academic and everyday settings. My love for working with kids started early. My mom taught various early-elementary grades, and her dedication to her job and students inspired me to pursue a career where I could foster children’s learning in an inclusive and challenging environment like she did.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Calvin University. My training has given me a strong foundation in childhood development, communication skills, and early literacy that enables me to bring practical, productive learning methods into tutoring.

Specialties:

Play-Based, Child-Led Learning To Make Learning Fun!
Early Literacy & Math Support (Preschool–Elementary)
Specialized Educational Support for ADHD, Autism, Intellectual and Learning Disabilities, Developmental Delays, Physical Disabilities, & Communication Needs.
Middle School & Young Adult Support (Study Skills, Time Management, Success Strategies).
Homeschool Curriculum Support with Individualized Plans Tailored to Your Child.

Because regulation and connection come before learning, I take a flexible approach in my lesson planning and assignments in order to best support each child’ s needs! My experience with neurodivergent children, children with intellectual/cognitive impairment, and children with physical disabilities in educational, recreational, and clinical settings has strengthened my ability to create engaging and individualized sessions!

Collaboration is very important to me, and I enjoy working closely with parents and teachers to ensure your child is supported in the best way possible. My goal is to meet students where they are, make learning meaningful and fun, and help them feel capable and confident in any classroom. I would love the opportunity to work with your child and support his/her growth every step of the way!
